Zinc Tablets

Zinc Tablets provide 25 mg of highly absorbable Zinc Bisglycinate together with 2 mg of copper to support daily health and wellbeing. Unlike the zinc sulphate and zinc gluconate commonly used in many supplements, zinc bisglycinate is a chelated form that is absorbed more efficiently and is gentler on the stomach.

Zinc is involved in more than 300 enzyme systems throughout the body, playing a vital role in immune function, antioxidant defence, wound healing, skin repair, taste and smell, and hormone production. It also contributes to healthy skin, hair, and nails, supports reproductive health, and helps maintain healthy testosterone levels.

Zinc deficiency is unusually common in Pakistan, and the reason is in what most of us eat every day.

Much of the soil across the subcontinent's wheat belt is low in zinc, so the wheat grown in it carries less. Wheat is also high in phytate, a compound that binds minerals in the gut and blocks their absorption. So a diet built on roti delivers less zinc than it appears to, and then prevents you absorbing much of the little it does deliver. This is a well-recognised enough problem that Pakistan has run national programmes to breed zinc-biofortified wheat specifically to address it.

That is also the argument for the form we use. Bisglycinate is zinc bound to glycine, an amino acid. That binding protects it from the phytates in your meal, so it survives a wheat-based diet in a way that plain mineral salts do not.

Useful for:

  • Daily immune support

  • Skin health, including acne-prone and slow-healing skin

  • Hair and nail strength

  • Male reproductive health and normal hormone function

  • Recovery and wound healing

  • Loss of taste or smell, a classic sign of low zinc

  • Anyone on a mainly wheat-based or plant-based diet

What it does:

  • Supports normal immune function, one of zinc's best-established roles

  • Supports skin repair and wound healing, which is why zinc turns up so often in skin advice

  • Supports hair and nail strength

  • Supports normal fertility and reproductive function, and normal testosterone production, since zinc is a required input for making it

  • Supports taste and smell, both of which fade when zinc runs low

  • Provides antioxidant support through zinc-dependent enzyme systems

Why bisglycinate. Most zinc tablets use oxide, sulphate or gluconate, chosen because they are cheap. They absorb less well and they are the reason zinc has a reputation for causing nausea. Bisglycinate is chelated to glycine, which improves absorption, resists phytate binding, and is much gentler on an empty stomach.

Why there is copper in it. Zinc and copper compete for the same route into your body. Take zinc on its own for a few months at this dose and you can quietly run your copper down, and low copper causes problems of its own including anaemia. Adding 2 mg of copper alongside 25 mg of zinc keeps the two in balance. It is there to protect you, not to pad the label, and it is the reason this is a tablet you can take daily for the long term rather than in short courses.

  • Take 1 tablet daily with food

  • Do not exceed one tablet a day. The upper limit for adults is 40 mg and this provides 25 mg

  • Take it a couple of hours apart from any iron supplement, since zinc and iron compete for absorption

  • Suitable for adults, men and women

  • If you take a multivitamin, check whether it already contains zinc before adding this

Each tablet contains:

  • Zinc, as Zinc Bisglycinate (25 mg) – chelated zinc for immune function, skin repair, hormone production and taste. Better absorbed and gentler on the stomach than zinc sulphate or gluconate

  • Copper, as Copper Gluconate (2 mg) – included to keep copper in balance, since sustained zinc intake can deplete it

Works well with: Vitamin C, for daily immune support through winter.
